This is an edited version of an autobiography and log written by Lawrence Waggener. I have greatly condensed the portion of his military service before he was assigned to crash boat service in the Southwest Pacific Area (SWPA). The article covers the time P-401 and her crew were sailed out of San Francisco aboard a liberty ship to Guadalcanal through their leaving P-401 in Manila and Bud’s return home.
